Emergency Procedures

Welcome to the Auburn University Libraries. Please use common sense and caution while studying in the library. We are very grateful to have the advice, cooperation, and logistical support of the University Police Department. We would like to offer a few safety tips to help you protect yourself.

What to do if...

You experience a threat to your personal safety in the library, or see someone else’s safety being threatened.

Call 911, then the RBD Circulation Desk at 334-844-1701 and advise them of the nature of the incident and its location. Circulation staff will then direct emergency personnel as they arrive at the building.


There’s a fire.

Call 911, then the RBD Circulation Desk at 334-844-1701 and advise them of the nature of the incident and its location. Circulation staff will then direct emergency personnel as they arrive at the building.


There’s a medical emergency.

Call 911, then the RBD Circulation Desk at 334-844-1701 and advise them of the nature of the emergency and its location. Circulation staff will then direct emergency personnel as they arrive at the building.


There's a tornado watch or severe weather warning.

Move to a designated safe area on the first floor or the ground floor of RBD Library.


Your personal belongings were lost or stolen in the library.

Contact the RBD Circulation Desk at 334-844-1701. Circulation staff will call 334-501-3100 (APD non-emergency phone) to report a stolen item. You are strongly encouraged to stay and file a police report when they arrive.


You need the assistance of security personnel.

Contact AU libraries security personnel at either the Mell or parking deck entrance desks. Security personnel are also patrolling floors. If you see one in the course of their rounds, you may report your security concern to them. All security escorts to the parking deck, Comer lot or Quad dorms originate at the parking deck entrance.


There’s a major water leak.

Call the Library Facilities Manager at 334-750-1550 or 334-750-2460. If no answer at either, call 334-844-4357.


The main doors to the library are unlocked after hours.
